“Smell is a potent wizard that transports us across thousands of miles and all the years we have lived.” Helen Keller
I have been working with essential oils for over 18 years. It is amazing what can be accomplished with an essential oil. Oils that are properly distilled contain naturally occurring chemical constituents that support all of our body’s major systems. We can relieve tension, improve sleep and digestion and even boost our immune systems – but quality and internal chemistry are key.
Essential oils enter the body in three ways depending on the oil
There are many different types of Lavender, Peppermint, or any species of plant for that matter. Many Lavindins are mis-labeled as Lavenders. It is important that you are working with the right species that will give you the most benefit and, that the species has been authenticated, so you don’t end up with an unintended oil on your skin.
How does skin application work?
Essential oils can be applied topically to the skin. However, it is important to understand which oils you are working with, since some oils can create too much heat and irritate the skin.
Lavender is soothing when applied to the skin and can help with occasional break outs or typical skin irritations, like a pimple. Many people like applying wintergreen and helichrysum essential oil to soothe the skin after normal exercise, or German Chamomile essential oil to ease dry skin.
Our Skin is Our Largest Organ
The skin is the largest organ of the body and it is fairly permeable. We absorb many things through our skin all day, both good and bad. The active naturally occurring chemicals in authentic therapeutic grade essential oils are absorbed by the skin. When you are using a pure therapeutic-grade oil, it is supportive to all of the body’s major systems.
Some researchers report that essential oils may be more readily absorbed from skin locations with greater concentrations of sweat glands and hair follicles, such as the head, soles, palms, and armpits (Battaglia, 2003).
How do I inhale essential oils?
You can put one drop on your non dominant hand. Rub clockwise three times to activate the electrical properties in the oil. Cup your hands over your nose and inhale deeply at least three times.
I am extremely particular about the oils I use. Many oils that are advertised as safe for ingestion may be processed in a way that is toxic, or contain fillers that are dangerous to the body. You cannot believe the labels.
Essential oils can enter the body through inhalation through the nose or mouth. Common examples include inhaling eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globules, E. radiata) essential oil to cleanse and freshen the air or inhaling wintergreen essential oil to provide an overall feeling of energy.
Interaction with the Limbic System (Emotional Brain)
During inhalation, odor molecules travel through the nose and affect the brain through a variety of receptor sites, one of which is the limbic system, which is commonly referred to as the “emotional brain.”
Do people ingest essential oils?
The only essential oils that should ever be ingested must be guaranteed to be 100% pure, sustainably grown, essential oils. Truly pure oils are a rarity. Many companies claim to have pure oils, but unless you can actually go to the farm and see the process for yourself, I would not trust those oils.

“Four years ago, I met Carla and was introduced to the benefits of using essential oils for wellness. After every session, I always ended up in better shape (and more knowledgeable about oils) than when I went in. Carla’s ability to listen to the client and then use her knowledge and experience to focus on a specific complaint about a muscle or area of pain always resulted in relief.
As time passed, I started accumulating my own collection of essential oils and used them to support wellness for myself and my family in daily life. Then, when I became pregnant with twins my daily ritual with oils and weekly sessions became even more vital to my health and the health of my babies. Every week I would see Carla and have my aches and pains of pregnancy worked on. Carla’s sessions with me allowed my body to relax and create a more peaceful environment for my unborn little ones.
Now that my babies are here, essential oils are part of our daily routine. They love to inhale the smell and seem to look forward to it.
I definitely feel that Carla’s experience in bodywork and oils has helped my babies and I get off to a great start with living a little more natural and creating more balance in our lives. Thank you for the knowledge, relief of pain, and friendship I have found in you.”
“I really enjoyed your Zen Zone Therapy class so much! I didn't know exactly what to expect when I signed up, but I was very pleasantly surprised!
As we settled into the class and you brought the essential oils around for us to smell and apply, I immediately began to relax. As you helped us get into the first pose, I felt the tension of the past weeks begin to ease up. I smiled without even realizing I was smiling b/c this wonderful feeling of bliss washed over me. When you came around the room and placed your hands on my shoulders and then my head, I felt immense joy and well-being and I knew this was exactly where I was meant to be and exactly what I needed to experience.
How often do we take time to nurture and care for ourselves in such a relaxing, peaceful way? During your class I resolved that I would make the time to do this for myself on a regular basis. After the workshop, I felt years younger, and I think my face reflected it, b/c I noticed people looking at me and smiling more often than usual... so thank you for creating this space for much needed healing and self-care. You are a powerful healer and I love how you teach and empower others how to use resources available to us, like the essential oils and yoga props, to promote and enhance our own healing.
Thank you Carla!!"

“Sridevi’s Zen Zone sessions are great. I was very stressed out when I came to her and she worked with me to get to the bottom of what was causing my stress. The techniques that she used helped me to relax deeply. I slept really good that night and really felt a lot less pain in my body after she was done I highly recommend a treatment and more than one so that one can continue to collect the benefits over period of time.”
“I recently had major surgery which left all my organs trying to adjust and reposition themselves. Not being able to fully exercise I started to get stiff and constipated. I went to see Carla for therapy and it definitely helped to start my body moving but also helped my body to relax and release any tension and blockages I had.
I came back several times to see Carla and I have to say Zen Zone Therapy help me get my body back on track after the surgery!
I would highly recommend everyone trying Carla’s work. Whether you are just in the need of a relaxation stretch or if you have had surgery and need a holistic approach to getting your body back in motion!”
